			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>When Idaho Senator Larry Craig called a press conference in Aug. 2007 to discuss the news of his arrest in a Minneapolis airport restroom, the <strong><em>New York Times</em></strong> needed someone local, on the ground to cover the breaking news, NOW. When NYT national assignment editor Joan Nassiveria called me to see if could <a href="http://nytimes.com/2007/08/29/washington/29craig.html?_r=1&amp;sq=patti%20murphy&amp;st=cse&amp;adxnnl=1&amp;oref=slogin&amp;scp=4&amp;adxnnlx=1219609822-GFfI9jaWKSLH64uwUUAG3A">report</a> on the press conference scheduled in less than 30 minutes, of course I said, &#8220;of course.&#8221; Over the next several weeks, I worked with Times writer William Yardley on <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/06/us/06idaho.html">getting local reaction</a>, covering a <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/02/washington/02craig.html?scp=2&amp;sq=patti+murphy+larry+craig&amp;st=nyt">second press conference</a> and other <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/02/washington/02craigcnd.html?scp=5&amp;sq=larry%20craig%20patti%20murphy%20boise&amp;st=cse">follow up stories</a>.</p>
